About the Project

The goal of this project is to recycle and redistribute high quality, previously used toys in our community.

The idea for this project came in Fall 2020 after hearing about a child who thought Christmas that year would be cancelled. Although Christmas and other holidays weren’t cancelled, they were not normal. 2020 presented many challenges for all of us, and some families in our community were hit particularly hard. Increased layoffs and unemployment rates with little government aid during a pandemic meant many families struggled to buy gifts for their children. Our hope was that redistributing free toys to families who needed them might help bring some holiday cheer to an otherwise bleak holiday season. The project’s second aim was to normalize redistribution and encourage sustainable practices. By keeping toys out of the landfill and redistributing rather than buying new, we are building a more sustainable future.

Now, in 2023, we hope that the world might feel a little more “normal,” but we recognize families are still struggling. The IC Toy Redistribution Project is here to help provide redistributed free toys to whoever can use them.
